I have 1099R papers and was wondering if I could not claim them on this year's taxes. I want to hold them and claim them next year.

I moved money from a non-taxable IRA to a taxable IRA and know that I will have to pay taxes, but do not want to claim on this year's taxes. Can I wait and submit the paperwork next year and pay the taxes on next year's taxes?

A 2018 Form 1099-R can only be entered on a 2018 tax return, not on a future tax return.

To enter a form 1099-R -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Or enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to 1099-R
