I got 4595 Social Security refund(2 w-2 forms), should I contact IRS directly to ask for refund or Turbo tax will do this for you?

Please explain.  Why did you receive these funds?  Was it a refund from your employer for an overpayment of Social Security taxes?  Was it from the Social Security Administration and if so explain why they sent you these funds.

Or did you have 2 or more employers and turbo tax shows you get a refund for excess social security?  That will be included in your 1040 refund or reduced a tax due.

Yes.  That is included on your tax return.  If you had more than 1 employer and paid more than $9,114.00 in Social Security tax (W2 box 4) combined you get the excess back on your tax return.  Check 1040 Schedule 3 line 10 for it. Then Schedule 3 goes to 1040 line 31.

Thanks for the explanation, Volvo girl. but I still have one small question. is this exceeding SSN tax refund different from the federal refund which shows in the top left corner? Because I notice this 4595 did not get added to the federal refund amount. Thank you

Or my SSN tax refund has applied to the Federal refund amount but I didn't notice?

Yes it is included in the refund in the top left.  It either added to your refund or reduced a tax due or changed it to be a refund.  It probably was included before you noticed.  You have to check the actual `1040 before you file.

For 2022 it will be on Schedule 3 line 11 which goes to 1040 line 31. The Social Security overpayment on line 31 is included in the total refund on line 35a.

Before filing you can preview the 1040 or print the whole return
