I filed indicating I had a Traditional IRA but should be Roth IRA. When I try to amend, I receive message I have exceeded my contributions for an IRA.

How can I fix?

Please follow these steps to delete your traditional IRA contributions and enter your Roth contributions:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “IRA contributions”
  3. Click on “Jump to IRA contributions"
  4. Unselect “traditional IRA” and select "Roth IRA"
  5. Confirm deletion of traditional IRA entry
  6. Answer “No” to “Is This a Repayment of a Retirement Distribution?
  7. Enter the amount you contributed to the Roth IRA

Please be aware, your Roth IRA contribution may be limited based on your filing status and income. Please see 2022 - Amount of Roth IRA Contributions You Can Make for 2022 for details.

Please see What happens if I made an excess Roth IRA contribution for additional information.
