I don't have my 1099-G yet, but I know the exact amount of unemployment I received. I want to complete my online tax now to see refund amt. and file once I get 1099-G?ok?

I received an email from GA Dept of Labor a few days ago stating 1099-G is available on the web portal. However, it is NOT. I just want to see my refund amt today, but I'll wait to send it after I get the 1099-G. Turbo Tax won't let me continue without the number from the 1099-G, so I guess I will just do a paper return?  Right?

The IRS is not accepting 2020 returns until February 12, so you have time to get the 1099G and file correctly.  If you e-file without entering it, or enter it incorrectly, you will spend months waiting since you will have to amend your return.

UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION

Unemployment compensation is taxable on your federal return.

You will have to enter a 1099G that is issued by your state.

Some states will mail out the 1099G.  Or you might need to go to your state’s unemployment website and use the password, etc. that you have been using to certify for weekly benefits to get your 1099G from the state’s site.

Enter your 1099G in Federal>Wages & Income>Unemployment

Go through the screens very carefully, making sure to enter any federal/state tax you had withheld from the unemployment.

No, you do not have to file a paper return. You can check last year's return for the EIN if you received any unemployment last year, or simply put in any nine digit number to move forward just to see your refund. It's very important to correct it before you file because it will be rejected for an incorrect number. TurboTax would not be able to send the return back to you for correction until the IRS actually rejects it and they do not start taking and testing returns until February 12th.

This should allow you to move forward to see your refund amount, without actually filing until you have inserted the correct number.

You can enter your estimates in TurboTax, but do not hit the submit returns button to file them.   If you do, your return will be locked and you won't be able to edit it and will probably have to do an amendment.   The IRS won't even start accepting returns until the 12th anyway, so no need to submit early without having all tax forms.

You will probably need to contact your state's UE office and get a corrected form if it not showing on the website.  If you received UE income, they are supposed to have your 1099-G information to you by today.   But if it is showing 0 compensation/tax, it is doubtful the system did or will generate the 1099-G.   It is still taxable to you even if their records are incorrect, so make the call if it is not corrected by the time e-filing starts.  @Persuazion1
