I do not want to upgrade to your live but in order to file it's telling me I have to because of a retirement credit?

TurboTax Live is not a requirement for any of our tax preparation software.  There should be a link (in smaller print) that presents you with a different option, either to continue forward or to upgrade to something other than Live.

It might be requiring you to upgrade due to the Retirement Savings Contribution Credit.  But that upgrade is to DELUXE.

TO avoid that forced upgrade to Deluxe, you go thru the Retirement Savings Credit interview on the Deductions&Credits page, and tell the software you were a student during 2020  (even if you weren't)  Of course, that removes the credit, but sometimes the cost of the upgrade is larger than the credit you might have received.   But if that credit is large enough, then paying the extra for the upgrade might be worth it.

There is no requirement and no tax scenarios that require an upgrade to Live for any reason.  If you elected to upgrade to Live, and didn't utilize the service, you can contact Customer Service and request help.  Start by clicking on:
