I contributed over $5,500 to a SEP IRA in 2016, if I enter amount with the traditional IRA section of Turbo Tax, it shows that I owe a penalty. Where do I enter info?

I contributed $14,000 to a SEP IRA-  where do I enter this information?  If I enter $14,000 into a "traditional IRA" the amount exceeds $5,500.  However, in reading what is included within a "traditional IRA"- SEPs are listed.

Traditional and Roth IRAs are entered in a separate area from where you enter SEP IRAs, in TurboTax. You can follow the instructions below to help you get to where you can enter your SEP contributions

  • Log into your account and click the orange Take me to my return button
  • Once inside of your return, type SEP accounts in the Search box in the top right
  • Choose jump to SEP accounts and that should take you right to the section to input that information.

Or you can get to that section this way:

  • Log into your account and click the orange Take me to my return button
  • Click on My Account, Tools and Topic Search
  • Type sep accounts into the box and click Go
