I am working with my bank to fix an error in my 1099 report. There is a delay in fixing this and I am now running late with my tax filing. Can I apply for an extension?

I have an issue with some stocks transferred from one brokerage account to another and cost basis did not get transferred over. My 1099 is incorrect due to this reason due to which it shows that I owe money to federal. While I wait for this issue to get fixed, can I extend my tax returns for federal & state?
