I am unable to delete a 1099-b that was entered on turbotax 2024 online purchase. The delete option doesn't work and is highlighted.

You can delete form 1099-B from TurboTax.  When deleting Form 1099-B, you will delete every page for the 1099-B entry and delete any worksheets that follow.  You can delete the form in TurboTax by following these steps:

  1. Login to TurboTax
  2. Click Tax Tools on the left side panel
  3. Click Tools
  4. Click Delete a Form
  5. Choose form
  6. Click Delete

I have the same problem, but Tax Tools does NOT appear on the left side of my screen when the return is open and active (or if it's not). Why on earth doesn't clicking the little trash can in the dumb dialog box introduced this year do what it does everywhere else - delete?

Some customers may experience a new way to navigate TurboTax this tax season.  See this TurboTax Help.

This navigation may help you remove the IRS form 1099-B:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Home.
  • Click on the down arrow to the right of Review.
  • Click on the blue band labeled Review.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Tools.
  • Click on Tools.
  • Click on Delete a form.
  • Find the form listed and click Delete to the right.

However, if the form re-generates, that means that there is an entry in the software that needs to be removed or changed.

If this is the case, return back to the point in the software where the questions that populate the form are asked.

Same problem, here's what I did:

MacOS

Click on the "Forms" icon at the top of Turbo Tax. That opened the blue side window to the left.  I went to the 1099 B worksheet. (mine was at the top of the blue window).  I highlighted it by clicking on it. Then I went to the top of the info bar on the desktop [Turbo Tax File Edit Forms Easy Step Flags Windows Help] and clicked on Forms there.  Click on "Remove Form".  This deleted the entire worksheet.

Definitely agree that what is the purpose of the trash can icon since that has been how you delete things from the time of Steve Job's garage. 2024 Turbo Tax is a disappointment for sure.

I have the same problem! Why doesn't get this fixed by Turbotax. It is very user Unfriendly. How do you put this out there and not test this so that you can ensure it works.

I've discovered that if you click on the trash can, then scroll UP through the greyed-out area, eventually you'll get a dialog box asking if you really want to delete the form. Say yes, and it's gone. It's an abysmal design. You shouldn't have to scroll to even find the dialog box.

Thanks, rcepuch!  Wasted way too much time on this trying to figure out that scrolling up to a hidden part of the screen was the way to go.  Terrible design!

It is unconscionable that TurboTax would release such a buggy unusable interface. I can almost bet the developer looked at the bug report, shrugged, said "Doesn't happen on my computer.", and marked it Unreproducible. Shame on such poor quality.

Desktop version on a Mac:

wish i thought of scrolling up when I hit the "delete" icon for the 1099-B
 - since i expected something right there on the screen -
I followed the steps above, which took many more steps when going to forms and click the form and then go to the "forms" tab and scroll down to delete -

Agree with others - bad design

Thanks for the scrolling up hint.  I was ready to delete Schedule D and start over.

Unbelievably poor design.  The changes made to interest, dividend and capital transactions this year are abysmal!

I clicked on the trash can and scrolled up. Saw the dialogue box asking me if I wanted to delete the form. But all my forms were highlighted and I didn’t want to delete everything.

Try the pencil icon (review/edit) which will allow you to edit the 1099-B.   From there, you can edit or delete individual transactions.  @c1a1cf

This is the correct answer for me also. Click trash can - scroll way way up through grey area - click yes in the box that says are you sure you want to delete this?  Not a great design but at least there is now light where there was darkness! Thanks

Wow you're a genius! Never thought to look up there. You saved me more hours of frustration.
