How do you handle income from participating in a medical research program when I have not received a 1099? Is there a higher threshold than $600 reporting this year?

No, the threshold is $600. You can still report your medical research program income for participating in the study.

Follow these steps:

  1. Sign into your TurboTax account.
  2. Select Pick up where you left off
  3. Select Federal from the left side menu, then Wages & Income.
  4. On the Your Income screen, scroll down to Add more income. If you don’t see this, scroll down to Less Common Income and select Show more.
  5. Select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C and Start.
  6. On the Let’s Work on Any Miscellaneous Income screen, scroll down and select Other reportable income and Start.
  7. On the Any Other Taxable Income? screen, select Yes.
  8. On the Other Taxable Income screen, enter a description and amount, then Continue.
  9. On the Other Miscellaneous Income Summary screen, confirm the entry and select Done.

To check the entry, Preview your 1040. Other reportable income is reflected on Schedule 1, line 8.

Report all your taxable income from your own records even if you don't get paperwork from the payer.
