How do I get the form for my 1099-R?

What form?  For most people the info on the 1099-R goes directly to line 4b (IRAs) or line 5b (pensions) of form 1040.  When needed, TurboTax will put info on line 4a or 5a of form 1040 and generate form 8606.  I will also generate the penalty or penalty exception form 5329, if needed. 

TurboTax does not have access to your Form 1099-R nor will any other tax preparation software company. 

You receive this form from the plan administrator who should have mailed you the form no later than 01/31/2022 for a 2021 distribution.  If you have not received the Form 1099-R then you will have to contact the plan administrator for assistance in getting the form.

 

If available you may be able to import the form.

Once you have the Form 1099-R use this procedure to enter the form -

 

To enter, edit or delete a form 1099-R -

• Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
• Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
• Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
• Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
• On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Or enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1099-R
