How do I get overpay refunded? I filed electronically with auto-deduct for payment. Wife mailed a check anyway. IRS cashed check AND auto-deducted.

If you are fortunate, IRS will catch the overpayment and refund it to you automatically.

 

If not, you will need to contact IRS via letter and/or telephone.

 

However, they are short-staffed right now, due to Covid-19, so it may be awhile.
