How do I enter a 1099-G if it is a Taxable Grant

The 1099-G has a section 6 for taxable grant, but the turbo tax 1099-G does not

There are different areas within the program that report information from Form 1099-G.  Use the following steps to to report the taxable grant :(

  • Login to your TurboTax account.
  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This will open a box where you can type in “1099-G” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here, including the dash) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)

  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to 1099-G

  • Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-G” link

  • Answer Yes to the question about whether you received any of these types of income (even though taxable grant is not included in the list)

  • On the next screen titled “State and local tax refunds and other government payments” check the box for Other Government Payments and click Continue

  • Answer Yes on the next screen (You will see taxable grant listed as an example for income you received) and click Continue

  • This will take you through the series of screens to enter your information reported on the 1099-G for a taxable grant
