How do I enter 1099-G state tax refund for tax year 2014 which I received this year?

I received a 1099-G for a state or local tax refund and it's clearly marked 2016, but box 3 says that the refund amount was for tax year 2014. The TurboTax program is (understandably) assuming that it would be for the previous tax year (2015). How do I work around that to enter the correct info?

When you enter the state tax refund, you can indicate that it was for 2014.

To enter a state or local tax refund reported on Form 1099-G:

  • Continue your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click My Account (top right of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the search bar, type 1099-g.
  • In the results box, highlight 1099-g, then click GO.
  • You'll land on Did you have any of these types of income? Click Yes. (Click the first screenshot below for reference.)
  • Next you'll see State and local tax refunds and other government payments. Select State or local income tax refunds, then click Continue. (Click the second screenshot below.)
  • Continue following the onscreen instructions. TurboTax will prompt you to enter the amount of your refund, plus the state or locality and the year to which the refund applies. Enter this information, including "2014" in the year field. (Click the third screenshot below for reference.)
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to the conclusion of this section. When you're finished, TurboTax will display the State and Local Tax Refund Summary. (Click the fourth screenshot below for reference.)
