If your interest income is over $1500, you will not have a "simple" return and will not be able to use the Free Edition.  Sorry.  You will need to upgrade to a paid version.

To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R

Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site

Yes, we can help you to add a 1099 R.

 Select Wages & Income

  1. Scroll down and select IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
  2. The screen should show Here's your 1099-R info
  3. At the bottom of the page click on [+ Add another 1099-R]
  4. You'll see Let's import your tax info
  5. Scroll to the bottom and select [Change how I enter my form]
  6. How would you like to upload your 1099-R?
  7. Say to [Type it myself]
  8. Who does this 1099-R belong to?

No, you can not use the free addition if you have over $1,500 interest

  • Interest in excess of $1,500 will require a Schedule B, and that is not supported in the Free Edition.

You can start with TurboTax Online.

You can start your return for free, and if you need an upgrade you will be notified.

We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?
