Form 1099-r. box 7 contains '7' (regular distributions). Turbo tax pre-checked "NO" but I didn't change it. How can I see what response was submitted?

Yes, you return is correct. Pensions go on line 5 and your distribution is a pension, so you did this correctly.

You can return the to entry of your 1099-R forms and click the "Edit" button for the form you want to review.

To get to Your 1099-R entries use the Search option, located in the upper right corner of the screen, next to the magnifying glass.  1)  In the Search text box, type "Form 1099-R" and click on that form number. 2)  Click on the "Jump to form 1099-r" link.  3)  Click the "Edit" box and step through the screens to review your entries.

Here is a more direct route because the Jump to link doesn't always work.

  1. Go to federal>wages and income>all income
  2. Retirement plans and Social Security>show more
  3. Ira (401K), pension plan Withdrawals(1099R) Start
  4. Then follow the instructions bosso3 has outlined.

How do I "Go to federal"?

I have included a screenshot below to show you where the federal tab is in the program.  I have drawn a yellow circle around it an it is in the left pane of the program. I have also drawn one around income and expenses, which is where you will go next. Then from there go to retirement plans and social security>IRA, 401K, pension plan withdrawals (1099R) do do the rest of the instruction outlined in the previous post.

I can't do what you're telling me to do because I've already e-filed my tax forms.

I assume you are referring to the question that comes up immediately after you enter the 1099-R. The question is Is the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box on this 1099-R checked?

This question verifies the entry you made on the previous screen. It also may change the line on which your retirement distribution appears.

If the IRA box is not checked, your distribution will appear on line 5 of your 1040. If the IRA box is checked your distribution will appear on line 4.

You can check your tax return and your 1099-R to make sure your distribution is on the right line.

TurboTax did not produce form 1040.

It did produce form 1040-SR.

Form 1040-SR has:

line 4a IRA distributions (which has no amount)

line 5a Pensions and annuities (which has an amount).

On form 1099-R, the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box is NOT checked.

The 1040-SR is the equivalent of 1040, but it is for seniors.

If you've already filed your return I suggest that you simply wait until the IRS has fully processed your return.

If there is a question they will pose it, or they may correct any of your concerns.

I noted that you had a code 7 in box 7.

You also noted that lines 4a and 5a were blank.

Where was the 1099-R from,  what type of account was it taken from, and what was the amount?

On my form 1040-ER:

Line 4a IRA distributions (has no amount)

line 5a Pensions and annuities (has an amount).

Form 1099-R is from CALPERS (the California Public Employees Retirement System).  The money is my monthly pension payments.
