For 1099-NEC, the State copy 1, do I give this copy to my contractors to file with the state or do I send this copy to the state?

You file Copy 1 with your state revenue department.

You give copy B and copy 2 to the recipient. The recipient, if required, will file copy 2 with his state return.

I used Quick Employer Forms and it created Copy B for recipient, Copy 1 for State and Copy C for Payer.  It did not create a Copy 2.  How do I get a Copy 2 for recipient?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. You may click here for a list of FAQs regarding Quick Employer Forms. I have escalated your concern so our engineers can troubleshoot the missing copy 2.

Thank you, Brandi.  I printed a 1099-NEC blank form from irs.gov.  I noticed it is revision 1-2022 and TurboTax is rev. 9/17/21.  The difference is the newest version has a space to write year---20___

Is it OK that the TurboTax forms aren't the latest revision?

The forms are due by Jan. 31 to recipient.  As a last resort, would the following be OK?

Handwrite a Copy B and Copy 2 (rev. 1/2022) to mail to recipient

Submit the Copy A through E-file on Turbo Tax (rev. 9/17/21)

I don't want to make the recipient concerned by sending them a handwritten Copy 2 and a typed Copy B at 2 different revisions.

Thank you.

You can hand write a copy for your recipient if you want, but if the NEC-1099 prints off fine then you should send that to your recipient.  As long as it shows tax year 2021 it's fine. There is no concern for handwritten to the recipient and the filing through Quick Employer Forms (QEFs) to the IRS and/or state.

Likewise you can choose to copy one of the forms you do print off for the recipient.

Turbo Tax has not generated a Copy 2 for the recipient to file with the State, only Copy B.

How do I get the Copy 2? I'd like to keep it uniform and  professional, not hand written. I don't need TT if I have to go to the IRS to print their forms.

It depends. For one thing, if your contractor is electronically filing, he/she would not need to send a copy to the state.

If the state requires one later on, he/she will send copy B or make a copy of the original and send it to the state. At this point, it doesn't matter if it is Copy 2, Copy B, or just a copy of the original 1099-NEC. In this respect, you are still conforming to your sense of uniformity and professionalism.

It'd be nice to have all the forms provided and not have to wonder or go somewhere else to find what is needed. Or have the contractor that may not file online make copies or jump hoops to file (not everyone uses TT or know what to do). The 1099s we receive from other businesses are complete with copy 2.  Turbo Tax should fix this and provide all forms as any other software and not send us somewhere else for it. This is my 3rd year using TT, I have experienced other glitches on more complex issues but never thought it would be a problem on an easy form like the 1099. Just my opinion, and yes, I will use the IRS form since I couldn't get the complete package here.

If you were not provided the form, you can enter the income under cash and checks/ other income.
