First time filing taxes and my first job used a 1099 form, I'm not sure what that means or if I even qualify to do my taxes

This is my first time doing this so please bear with me. The first job I worked in 2016 that regards the question I listed above..I wasn't actively working at. Mainly part time if that with hardly any hours..probably making 300-400 a month or so for about maybe 5 months? My mom doesn't speak english well and I know I waited till the day before to do this, it's solely because I was conflicted with knowing if I even qualified or not.


I also got hired at another job later in the year in December (2016), but my overall gross wasn't much considering the tax forms or the W-2 said my wages were around 650 or so.

To figure out if you need to file, you'll need to know if someone is going to claim you as a dependent on her taxes.
