Each year I have to enter the same data for the RMD from an Inherited IRA (date of death, etc.). It is foreseeable that such an RMD would occur each year, so it would be much easier if the data was carried over from the prior year so the User would only have to make minor modifications instead of enter all the data from scratch each year.
Sorry, forms carry over, the data does not. There are too many variables and most would data be incorrect.
Thank you, AGAIN, macuser! You helped with an earlier issue too (Custodial Account). Most of the RMD entries are similar to the Taxpayer info at the beginning of a return (e.g. Name, Address, Occupation, etc.) and THAT info is carried over. Why wouldn't the RMD info carry over? It's the same kind of info (Name, Date of Death, etc.). The actual RMD dollar amount would vary each year, of course, but if the other info carried over, it would be easy to just modify the dollar amount each year. Not complaining - just offering a suggestion that seems to make sense (at least from my perspective).
The basic 1099-R form data should carry over, just not the dollar amounts.
If the 1099-R box 2b (total distribution) was checked in 2017 improperly then it will not carry over.
Thank you, macuser! Nothing for the RMD carries over for me and I've been using TT for many years. I will have to check if box 2b was checked in prior years. I apologize that I won't be able to do it until at least tomorrow b/c I have a 3:30am departure tomorrow morning. Thank you again for your excellent points!
