The application doesn't indicate what fields are missing, and I get caught in a loop where it won't let me proceed until I fix the "invisible" error. I've tried deleting the 1099-NEC and re-entering to no availl. A different 1099- NEC I've entered for my wife is fine.
Income reported on Form 1099-NEC is not reportable directly on your tax return. Just entering the information on that form is only one step. Since it is self-employment or 'non-employee compensation' it must be associated with a Schedule C (or Schedule F), even if there are no expenses being claimed. The message you are seeing is telling you that the Form 1099-NEC is not associated with a specific Schedule C, therefore the Form 1099-NEC reporting is incomplete.
The information required for the Schedule C will include the type of business, the business name (or your name if there is no specific business name), the business address (or your address), etc.
Since income reported on Form 1099-NEC needs to be reported on Schedule C, the program is trying to tie these two forms together to be sure that it is reported correctly and on the right form.
Try going back to the section where you entered the Form 1099-NEC if you entered it on its own and delete that entry. Use these steps:
This will bring you to the summary of all Form 1099-NEC that you have entered. Click Delete or the trash can icon next to each one.
Next, you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC as part of the Schedule C so that the income is reported directly as part of your Business Income and Expenses and within the correct form and section of your return.
Use these steps to go to the Schedule C section of your return.
If you already have a Schedule C in your return, edit it and go to the section to Add Income. This is where you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC.
If you do not already have a Schedule C in your return, follow the prompts and enter the information about your work/business for which you received the Form 1099-NEC. Then continue through that section to Add Income and enter the Form 1099-NEC plus any other income you received for that self-employed business.
Don't forget you can also claim expenses related to your business.
After you are finished, the error condition should be eliminated.
After entering and reentering and double checking for errors on the prompt "one of your 1099-NEC doesnt include enough for us to know where to report the income on your return" and following the advice on this blog ("delete and enter as part of Schedule C"), I am left with no choice but to give up on TurboTax and find another tax software. Funny thing is is that error occurs only with one of two 1099-NEC. Can anyone help? Thanks
The entry of Form 1099-NEC is a convenience and not a requirement. The IRS has a copy of the same form that you have. To eliminate the experience you have use the steps below to add the income without entering the form. You should delete any Form 1099-NEC that you have previously entered.
Follow the steps here to enter your income without using the Form 1099-NEC and then delete that form from your file.

I followed these steps but it still says to review it even though I didn’t I put it as a 1099-Nec
The steps outlined by @DianeW777 allow you to post the income represented on the 1099-NEC income as income to your Schedule C self-employment income activity.
Have you been able to accomplish that?
I suspect you still have the original 1099-NEC entered in the software and it is generating the "Error: 1099.
It is not clear where the original 1099-NEC has been entered. Are you able to return to it? Are you able to delete the entry by clicking on the trashcan to the right of the entry?
If you are not able to return to the original 1099-NEC, you may be able to locate it by a Tax Topics Search.
This method may or may not be successful since the 1099-NEC can be entered from a number of locations.
The trash can doesn’t delete the original 1099-NEC you have to go to tools>delete form or documents> and then delete anything that’s connected to that income. And then go back in as @Dianaw777 said. The trash can is not useful at all but 3 hours later I finally figured it out.
I did this and it still gave me the error. I don't know where to delete the other income from the tax tools, delete forms page??? Can someone help. What's weird is the federal review says needs more info but the final review says it looks good and ready to file. Getting pretty frustrated 😠
To clarify, what was your 1099 NEC issued for? My suggestion is if the program tells you you are ready to file and has a green checkmark, file the return and see if it gets accepted. If you receive a rejection code, write us back and we can give you the steps to resolve it.
@Kandra
I entered all the 1099 NEC forms ( they are for work we did for companies, we are self employed. I will try and file and see what happens thank you
I did thus and it worked for entering my 1099 NEC forms but it still said needs review and I think it is because I am adding self employment other income for the money I did not receive 1099 NEC forms for. Where in the actual schedule c can I delete the other self employment income do I can re add it in the schedule c. It is only the federal review that says more information is needed. When I just skip ahead to the final review it gives me the green check mark to file
Thanks for the help
To review your Schedule C income entries, in TurboTax online, select Wages & Income in the left margin. Then from the Your income and expenses screen, scroll down to Self-Employment income and expenses and select Review.
The other income you entered and for which you did not receive a 1099, is that other income compensation for work? If that other income was related to your self-employment, then you can add it in the Self-Employment section the same way you entered the 1099-NECs. If that income was for something else, such as a one-time job assignment, or something that was not part of your self-employment, then you can enter it as other income.
To enter other income in TurboTax online, click on Wages & Income, scroll down the page to Less common income, click on the drop-down arrow and select Miscellaneous Income. From the list select Other reportable income and respond to the questions on the screens that follow.
@Kandra
It us for work that we did and did not receive 1099 NEC's for. So last year I added it as self employed income including cash & checks in which It says needs review and so I went in and added what it was for 2022. But then when I am all dine with everything and it goes to federal review it says looks like we need more information I have been fighting this for a week now. So I followed the instructions the delete all 1099 nec and re enter and it let me go further with more questions which I answered but then still got the need more info. But if I skip to the end review it says let's double check everything sayi g everything looks good and I get the green check mark saying I can file.
Delete all your original input and lets start from scratch.
1-Wages & Income
2-Business Income & Expenses
3-Did you have any income or expenses for the business
4-Brief description of your business
5-Business information
6- Biusiness code
7-Keep going till it asks you for any 1099NEC income
It flows through seamlessly both on the Sch C and the 1099NEC worksheet.
Good luck!
“I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:”

I have done everything and it still said more info needed in the federal review part and I have gone thru everything again after clearing everything and starting over 3 times. But if I go to the final review it says everything looks good and ready to file. Thank you for your help.
When you say start over are you saying like you told turbo tax to delete everything? And if so are you still entering the information as a 1099 NEC?
Yes exactly what I did but I went into the actual forms and deleted them from the tools tab and the delete forms tab then re entered the 1099 NECs that i have. For everything I did nit get 1099NECs for I am putting under other self employment income but I dont jnie where to delete that on the actual forms and wondering if that is what is causing the error
What I had to do was put it all as other income not enter the nec for anything. I’m not sure why but my tax return was accepted and my return has already been sent to me.
We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?
We received your sanitized file, but can't open it due to the state return. What type of entity (Partnership, C-Corp, S-Corp, Trust or Estate) are you working on? What state is included? @Kandra
I'm having the same issue. 1099-NEC for contract work. Continuously fill out the same information and it keeps forcing me to review.
Turbotax has changed so that Dianne's advice form 2021 doesn't work.
I've tried skipping past it but it will not allow me to file at the very last step.
Any help is greatl appreciated.
Try entering it a different way as follows;
Delete the entire entry from where you have it entered at this point. In your case it'd appear in the Business Summary.
Then re-enter all the information again as follows;
1- On TurboTax, on the right hand side , click on the search bar and enter in 1099NEC
Then;
2- Hit "Jump to NEC"
3- On the next couple of screens, you will include all the details relating to this business and you will end off by clicking "Done."

@vegetableinevitable Your 1099NEC is for self employed contract work. Actually you can just enter it as Other self employment income or as Cash or General income. You don't need to get a 1099NEC or 1099K. Even if you did you can enter all your income as Cash. Only the total goes to schedule C. You should be entering the income from your own records.
You can enter Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to Premium version. Or use any of the Desktop CD/Download programs.
