Do I have to wait until next year to take advantage of the clean air tax credit?

I bought a new EV in March of this year (2025) Can I claim the credit this year when filing

No.  You cannot claim it on your 2024 tax return.  You will need to wait until 2025.

However, in the meantime, you may want to check to be sure that the dealer submitted the information to the IRS.  If they do not, there is a problem with claiming the credit.  So it does not hurt to contact them now to be sure they did and even ask for proof if you can to make filing and claiming the credit next year easier.
