Do I have to report Cdn RRSPs on my US taxes? I am a permanent resident of the US. I have RRSP (Registered Retirement Saving Plan = IRAs) investments in Canada.

As a U.S. permanent resident, you have to report your worldwide income. You have to report your RRSP distributions as income on your U.S. tax return and take the foreign tax credit.

You do not have to report your RRSP contributions.

Where do I report my RRSP income on US tax return?  It doesn't seem to fit in the 1099-R (IRA distribution) section.

Report them here:

  1. Federal
  2. Income and expenses>jump to all income
  3. Retirement plans and Social Security
  4. Canadian Registered Pension Income

I figured it out.  Turbo Tax will ask you the question.  Distribution is entered independently of IRA distribution.

Thanks!  I had just figured it out, but if I hadn't, I appreciate your reply!
