Do I have to file for deceased parent if they made under 12,000 in 2020?

My parent passed away on February 2020 and I read on the IRS website that you don't need to file taxes if you're filling as; single, under 65 and made less than $12,400. Does this apply to a deceased person from California or would I need to file anyway due to state tax? Thank you.

It is true that the minimum income amount depends on your filing status and age. In 2020, for example, the minimum for single filing status if under age 65 is $12,400. If your income is below that threshold, you generally do not need to file a federal tax return.

However, it may be an advantage to file if there was any withholding.

In California you would not be required to file if income was below $12,400 for under 65.
