Do I have to file a tax return if I have a 1099-R from retirement survivor benefits for $ 6800 ?

Whether or not you need to file depends on your Filing Status and if your total income during the year (including the Survivor Benefits)  If there were taxes withheld on your Form 1099-R (Box 4 or Box 12) you may want to file even if you aren't required in order to receive the withholding back as a Refund.
