Do I deduct my portion of premium payments If I must make up the difference in what my employer contributes to my union sponsored plan?

My health insurance is sponsored by my union and partially paid for with employer contributions as a benefit. Any difference is made up of after tax personal contributions.

Yes you can deduct as Medical Expenses.  Note for federal taxes, the deduction is the amount that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income, but you state may have a different threshold.  If you enter in TurboTax it will let you know your best options.
