Cancer Benefit; no 1099

We got a payment in 2023 for our Cancer policy.  But to our surprise got no 1099 from the company for the amount they paid out.  The premiums were paid with Pre-taxed dollars, so I was expecting a 1099 but never got one.  How do I handle this?  Also, if I report this as income, can I also deduct the amounts we used for treatment and Travel directly against this income?  A large portion of what we were paid was against direct bills we got from the doctor/Hospital.  I normally do not itemize and take the standard deduction.

Payments received from insurance policies are not taxable income and you do not report them as income. To deduct your Travel expenses for treatment you would need to itemize medical expenses which may or may not be greater than your standard deduction.
