.can we file our taxes with out the 1099r from my wifes retirement pension? We are having a hard time getting the 1099r from the pension fund administrator.

if we cannot get a 1099r from the employer- can we just enter the amounts received with out the 1099r?

I do not advise filing your tax return with that form 1099-R.

The reason is that you may not have all the correct information to enter that form in your tax return. Especially, your spouse may have federal and state tax withheld and not entering that information will make you lose the benefit of the withholding. As the IRS has a copy of that form, any mismatch will be automatically detected and you may receive a letter from the IRS which cause stress and waste of time.

If you plan administrator has a website, you can try logging into your account and printing out your form 1099-R from there.
