You can enter your 1099-SSA by selecting the following:

  • Income
  • Your Retirement
  • Start next to 1099-SSA, social security

When you say it appears as last years numbers are missing, missing from where?

You should not use your form from 2022 on your 2023 return.

If you did not include your SS on your return last year, you will need to Amend Your Return to include this income.  Although SS is not taxable if you have no other income, if you do have other income or if you are married and file separate returns, it does become taxable.

If you fall into the following, 85% of your social security is taxable income

  • Single with income above $34,000
  • Married Filing Jointly with income above $44,000
  • Married Filing Separate regardless of income

If you fall into the following, 50% of your social security is taxable income

  • Single with combined income between $25,000-$34,000
  • Married Filing Jointly with combined income between $32,000 and $44,000

Your combined income is calculated by adding your

  • AGI plus
  • Nontaxable Interest plus
  • 1/2 of your social security Benefits
