Can a RMD from an IRA be reinvested and how do I show it on my 1040?

Is the RMD shown as income and then shown as a new investment for the current year?

No.  It doesn't matter what you did with the RMD.  It is taxable.   Then if you bought shares with it that is your cost basis in the new account.
