2020 Maryland return rejected: IRS 1099R-110520-010-State Abbrev Code required for all state and local tax groups. I rechecked my three 1099R forms vs program entries?

Note: my USCG(retired) 1099R box numbers for state tax withholding differ from the online program...ie:
program box 14 (state tax w/h)---box 12 on the actual 1099R
program box 15 (state abbrev/id)--box 13 on the actual 1099R
program box 16 (state distrib)--box 14 on actual 1099R
I filled the boxes in the program with what I believe to be the info they needed there. No local Md taxes were withheld from any of my three 1099R, so I removed the 'zeros' I had previously entered in the program. Md return rejected a second time. Any suggestions/ideas why this is happening?

The form 1099-R was changed from 2019 to 2020. Not all providers changed their forms to the new version, they just changed the date. It is frustrating for you to have basically a 2019 form and 2020 software. Yes, you have to go through and match up what is being asked as you stated.

The reject State Abbrev Code required for all state and local tax groups tells me that you have an issue with local. You said no local tax was withheld. You can delete all local tax information. The MD state needs to be matching up with any local information. If deleted, it would not be a problem.

We do want to keep MD and MD state id and tax withheld left intact on your form.

The 010 could be indicating a state operation field that should be blank.

You can fill this form out for someone to call you.

Thanks a bunch---Amy C...

That helped to resolve my problem A-OK. State of Md accepted my return on the third attempt.

Not exactly sure which entry caused the issue? ... but I guess that removing the state identifier or perhaps the 0.00 entry for local tax (as was shown on my USCG 1099R)...but disliked by the Maryland system...was the solution. Surprised that something like that was not corrected/questioned by the TT program or coordinated better between TT and the Maryland system. Scared me that for the first time in 20+ years as a TT user that I had a return rejected. Thanks again & have a great day!
