1099-R and IRA distribution

I received a 1099R for my required RMD and entered it under pensions.  The sane amount is also appearing as an IRA distribution which has increased my income on my 1040.  Why is this distribution being reported twice?

I'm not sure how it got reported twice, but we can try to find out.

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click "Federal" from the left side of your screen
  3. Click "Wages & Income" on the top
  4. Scroll down to  "IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
  5. Look here to see if it has been entered twice.

If it has.  Select one and click on the trash can that is on the right.  It will ask Are you sure you want to delete this 1099-R?

Answer Yes.

The 1099R has not been entered twice.

Do you have more than one 1099R?  What was the RMD from?  Your IRA or a 401K?  Since the RMD was waived for 2020 did you put it back or roll it over to another account or from a 401K to a IRA?

Delete the 1099R and re enter it.  That may clear something out.  If it was from a IRA see if the little IRA box between boxes 7&8 is checked on your form and on the screen.

"I received a 1099R for my required RMD and entered it under pensions."

Don't do that.
