Child Tax Credit - 2021 born baby

Hello,

We had a baby in November of 2021. I do not plan to sign up for the monthly child tax credit payments. Will we receive the full credit when we file 2021 taxes Even if:

1. she was born in the 11th month of the year

2. we didnt sign up for installment payments

You will receive the full Child Tax Credit for the child born in 2021 on your 2021 tax return.  A child born during the tax year is deemed to have lived with you for the entire tax year.

Since you did not receive any of the Advance Child Tax Credit payments during calendar year 2021, that will have no affect on the amount of the Child Tax Credit you will receive on your 2021 tax return.

Hi pfinne1989!

Thank you for asking this question!  Yes, you will be able to get the Child Tax Credit as long as your child was born anytime in 2021 (as long as it is before the clock officially rolls to 2022).   Also, if you didn’t get the Advanced Child Tax Credit, you’ll be able to reconcile the differences in your 2022 taxes and claim the remaining amount.  I’ve provided an IRS link below that you may find helpful when you file next year:

Thanks again for the questions and good luck!

Thank you! and do we also receive a stimulus check credit, even though our baby was born after the checks were disbursed?
