Received a stimulus check. However not the full amount. Instead of $1200, we received $1098.27. Why did we not receive the full amount?

We received it by direct deposit.

The amount is reduced if your adjusted gross income is more than $150,000 for married filing jointly.  Check your AGI from your 2019 tax return (line 11 I think).

The Stimulus Checks are really based on your 2020 return we are filing in 2021.  So any amount you already got will be reconciled on your 2020 return line 30.  If you didn't get a Stimulus Check (and qualify) or you qualify for more it will be added to your 2020 return.  But the good news is if they paid you too much they won't take it back.

When you go through the federal review tab it will ask how much you got if any.  Or to enter your stimulus payment in TurboTax, type "stimulus" (without the quotes) in the Search box, then click the link that says "Jump to stimulus."

We don’t earn that much.

Earnings are immaterial to getting the missing stimulus money ... so if you did not get all you were entitled to in advance then you must file a 2020 return to get the missing amount.  There is no NON Filer option this year ... you simply file a regular return.

If you qualify  AND   if you wait until mid January  THEN you can use one of  the 10 IRS FREE FILE options to file a fed & state return for free ... but you must be patient.    https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

IRS Free File: Closed until January 2021

IRS Free File is closed for the 2020 tax season. Check back in January for Filing Season 2021 opening details.

For Filing Season 2021, you must make $72,000 or below to use one of the 10  IRS Free File partner offers.

I don't know why the payment would be smaller than the standard amount if you earn under the income limit.  However, if you qualify for the full amount, you can claim the difference as a credit when you file your tax return. During the Federal Review section, the program will ask for your round 1 and round 2 payments in separate boxes.  If you are owed more, it will be added to your refund.
