Income earned in 2017 & 2018 via a 1099 was credited to my hiusband's social security acct instead of mine. How do I correct this?

call social security office. 

I did precisely that and they indicated that I must amend the returns for those years to reflect the correct name on the schedule C.  I would have thought that because the IRS gets the 1099 the information would have been directed to the correct individual for SS purposes.
