2ND Stimulus payment received in 2021 - why do i claim in 2020 ?

The subject line is my basic question. Why do i have to report the 2nd round for 2020 taxes when it wasn't received until 2021 ?  (1/4/21 to be exact)  Am i being taxed on 1st and 2nd round or not?

You claim it on your 2020 return, even if received in 2021, because that is the way that IRS has set it up.
