Why does the Turbo tax program prompt me to review my IL taxes after claiming military income, even after uploading my military W-2?

It depends. It may ask you to review to make sure everything is correct. See if you can file despite the review message. If unsuccessful, let us know so we can do a deeper look.

I have tried to file and it still will not let me. It will just continue to prompt me to review and only leads me to the prompt to file my taxes through mail and not e-filing

It might be that a form isn't ready or doesn't support being e-filed. Please see the State forms availability table for TurboTax individual (personal) tax products.

To verify, you checked the active-duty military box for the W-2 on the "Do any of these uncommon situations apply to this W-2?" screen right after you enter your W-2 and have entered your military pay on the "Military Pay Exclusion" screen during the Illinois state interview?

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please respond back with the Token Number that was generated.
