Why do I have to pay state taxes for VA where I am stationed if I am active duty, and my home residence is in MN?

We have never had to pay state taxes for current duty station

Go back to the My Info section of the program by clicking on My Info on the left side of the online program screen.

Edit your personal information.  For your state of residence choose Minnesota.  Since you are active military, when asked if you lived in any other states answer NO and when asked if you made money in any other states answer NO.

If you did not have income from a Virginia source and only received military pay then you do not complete a state tax return for where you are stationed.  You only file your Minnesota state income tax return.
