Turbotax won't let me file only the state-return. How do I do this? I have no fed-taxable income. 100% disabled combat vet. State is MO. They owe me $1100 for my house.

The state tax return cannot be e-filed if the federal tax return is not e-filed, it would have to be printed and mailed.

Since the federal return has no income entered you can enter $1 of interest income so that it can be e-filed.  On the Form 1099-INT enter any name for the Payer and $1 in box 1 of the form.

Once the interest has been entered then you can go to the File section of the program to e-file both the federal and state tax returns.

To report interest income received -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home & Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on
  • Under Interest and Dividends
  • On Interest on 1099-INT, click on the start or update button

Or enter interest income in the Search box locate in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to interest income

....and...I'm not sure you can e-file MO right now...tax forms say 26 January as the first date you could e-file it.

Printing for mail-filing is not available until after 26 January either
