My military W2 lists the incorrect state of residence

I am a member of the National Guard living in LA.  The W2 from my civilian job correctly states LA as my state of residence and deducted LA state income.  During 2017 I was mobilized to Active duty in the middle east.  However, the DOD has issued my 2017 W2 with all state deductions for the state of KS.  As such, will I need to file a KS tax return to correct this issue?  I have filed a request for a correction with DOD Finance 9-months ago and no resolution with them yet.

Yes, if you had any state tax withheld, you will need to file a nonresident return with the state of KS showing no income from KS sources in order to be refunded all the withheld tax.
