Hey, I'm military and filing jointly (spouse is not). Everywhere I've looked, filing online with turbo tax should be free, yet when I try to file at the end, it says I'm being charged 135$ for TurboTax deluxe and Max.
I've already confirmed I was military, active duty all year in 2024, in "my info" and again in "wages and income".
And again, when I try to file, TurboTax would charge me.
Do you mean both parties have to be military when filing jointly for turbotax to be free?
You must NOT be using one of the Live online editions if you are active military and want the free online editions. Look at the top left of the TurboTax program screen which shows the edition you are using.
In the My Info section of the program you need to indicate that you are active military. You must enter a Military W-2 in the Wages & Income section and after completing the W-2 on the screen labeled Let's check for uncommon situations you will need to check the box Active military duty
When you complete the tax return using the above information you will not be charged for either the federal or state tax returns.
If you have confirmed that you have done all of the above and are still be asked to pay for the account, then contact TurboTax support for assistance.

No. Only one spouse needs to be active military.
