I am a veteran who left the military in 2019. I did not receive any military pay in 2020. Why is my 2020 state filing prompting active duty questions?

Please go back to the My Info section to check your entry:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click “My Info” tab in the black bar on the side of your screen.
  3. Click “Edit” next to your name.
  4. Scroll down to the last question in Section 1: “I am a member or former member of the U.S. Armed Forces (active, reserve or National Guard)”
  5. Mark the appropriate radio button and click “Continue”

Thanks for the response.

I've done that. I've even logged out and refreshed when it didn't work the first time. The questions are still prompting for state.

Quite possibly it is a carryover from your 2019 state returns.  Did you use TurboTax online in 2019 and are you filing in the same state in 2020 as 2019 return?  If so, TurboTax is probably bringing over the information to help make your return easier to complete.

Here is a link that may help explain.

If you answer the military questions appropriately, your returns should calculate properly.

If the issue does not resolve with your entries, please post again with what state program you are working in.
