How can I receive my military tax credit when turbo tax won’t recognize my DFAS W2 as military?

You should return to the "Wages and Income" section and edit the W2 form.

1.  After verifying the form information is entered correctly, you will arrive at a page titled "Let's check for Uncommon Situations."

2.  There you need to select the  "Active Military Duty" box to properly identify the pay.

3.  Continue through the remaining section questions.

4.  Now the price reduction for TurboTax will be applied.

This still isn't working for me. I have my DFAS W2's uploaded into my tax return and have selected "active military" yet the discount doesn't apply when I get to the end.

The TurboTax military discount is automatic based on the information you enter.

The offer is valid for active duty and reservists of an enlisted rank (E-1 through E-9) with a W2 from DFAS. It excludes TurboTax Live products. The discount will be applied when you are ready to file

Check these items:

  • In Personal info, say YES to I am a member or former member of the U.S. Armed Forces (active, reserve or National Guard)
  • Select Active duty military on the screen “What was your military status as of December 31, 2022?”
  • On “What was your highest military pay grade in 2022?” select Enlisted or Officer and enter your rank.
  • Enter your DFAS W-2 in the Wages & Salaries
  • After you enter your W-2, you will see a screen “Let’s check for uncommon situations.” Select Active military duty
