For my military status, I was active duty until September, would I put that I am a veteran or active duty I left the military in 2016?

They are asking for your military status as of 12/31/2017 and it won't make any difference how you answer the question. 

As long as you select "Did you serve in the U.S. Armed Forces in 2017?", you will get all the relevant military interview questions - just in a different order.
