"Did I maintain a permanent place to live outside MO?"

I'm confused about this question. My state of legal residence is MO but I have lived in KS (where I am stationed) all of last year. Is that considered a permanent place to live?

Your answer to this question is No.

If you are active duty military then your tax home (unless you have adjusted it) is the state where you enlisted (MO in your case).  That is your permanent place to live.  Any housing that you have after that is 'temporary' because, in theory at least, you are only there because the military has ordered you to be.
