Look at 2017 first to make sure it shows a -$3,000 capital loss on the Form 1040. Then when you started the 2018 return, did you transfer in the prior year return?
I did not transfer it in. It didn't offer me the option as I thought it had before. I do have a $3000 capital loss carryover. Do you know if I can clear it all out and start over so I an transfer 2017 in? I am working on a CD that we downloaded to my computer and I did register.
No need to start over, I'll put in answer below on how you can enter it in the program.
Last year the loss showed on the front page of form 1040, but i don't see it this year. is it deducted from my taxes?
It is still on line 13, however it is not on Schedule 1 which is the first schedule of the Form 1040.
Go to Federal taxes
then to Wages and Income
then "I'll chose what to work on"
Look for Investments
and 2nd one is Capital Loss carryover
Just remember when you enter it (the capital loss carryover) enter it as a positive number here. So if your carryover loss is -$13,000 enter 13,000 as carryover.
This will take care of it.
To find the loss look at 2017 Sch D.
