Why isn't Form 8990 included for individual tax returns?

There is NO good reason for Turbo Tax not to include Form 8990 in (all versions of) their software. It may be true that some people would not be required to file the form; however, there are many people that are! Simply do a search online and you will find countless people with the same issue. This form IS included in other TT versions, but only for those who are filing 1065 and not 1040! And, if you want to comply and file Form 8990, you are directed to the IRS website and instructed to complete the form manually. In that case, you can't file electronically and must mail your entire printed return. It's absurd.

Try TaxAct.

No other DIY software preparation firm has 8990 in their individual income tax prep packages.

I don’t believe Tax Act does either. Whether or not other DIY software companies include it isn’t the issue. The issue is that TT doesn’t include the form because, according to them, most individuals don’t need it. That’s not a good reason. And, as I mentioned before, they do support the form in another version. Unfortunately, that version doesn’t include 1040.

Check their web site. Your're wrong; they do support the form.

How on earth would YOU know that? I would presume the exact opposite is the case; MOST individuals do NOT need the form.

Yeah, I know; it's TurboTax Business, for the record.

Again, you have choices. TaxAct DOES support the form, so why not simply use that product to prepare your income tax return(s)? Complaining that TurboTax doesn't include it on this forum will do you no good whatsoever, it will accomplish exactly nothing.

Why so defensive? I stand corrected. It’s not true for most people; however, this is an issue for a lot of people. You should read some of the other posts. In my opinion, they should include it. Bringing it up in this forum seems reasonable to me. Btw, if TaxAct does support the form, then I’m happy to use them instead.

Because your attitude about this issue is annoying, that's why. There are not just millions of taxpayers who file using TurboTax, there are TENS of millions. Only a small fraction (definitely less than 1%) ever post a question on this board and only an infinitesimal fraction of those posts involve Form 8990.

If you read ALL of the posts, the foregoing is readily apparent.
