Why is my credit for maintaining a home for a developmentally disabled person only $100 if idaho law states that it’s $1000?

In Idaho, there are two different tax benefits for people who live with a family member with a developmental disability. However, you can't claim both for the same person.

  • Deduction of $1,000: Per Idaho Statute 63-3022E, if you maintain a household for an immediate family member with a developmental disability and provide more than half of their support, you' may be eligible for a $1,000 deduction from your taxable income.  See Idaho State Legislature Or
  • Credit of $100: According to Idaho Statute 63-3025D, you can opt for a $100 credit instead of the $1,000 deduction. See Idaho State Legislature.
