Where it says Fill in the total expenses for your entire home where it asked for rent is that the total for the year or how much I paid per month?

It sounds like you are working on the expenses to be allocated to a home office. You want to use annual expenses, generally. The exception would be if the property was not in use for the entire year. In that case, your "annual" expenses would be the sum of the rent paid for all the months the property was used during the year.
