Wells Fargo Advisors Import still not working

Has anyone been able to import their F1099's from WFA?  Day 3 and I still get error messages from TT.  WFA says the files have been ready since the 17th.  And "no", it's not a situation where I don't know my username or password.  Lol.

So TT says the problem is WFA and WFA says the problem is TT.  How surprising.  But WFA did verify the 1099's are available for import.  So now I'm back on hold with TT.  Sigh.

Anyone else having this issue?

Yup, same thing here.

I also have been trying to download since yesterday.  No luck.  WFA has also referred me to TT.  However, WFA did tell me that "Turbo Tax is not allowing special characters in the password".  As a result I changed my WFA password and tried again, no luck.  I called back WFA a second time and the help desk person said "TT has been having trouble with imports from us so you might want to wait a bit longer and try again"

TT kept denying there was a problem the second time I called.  The reason I was given was that their technical department had no open cases there was anything amiss.  My reply was, why haven't they already opened a case?  I'ld already called once and now have been on the phone for over an hour!  Not much of a reason as to why it had to be a WFA problem.    But Quicken and WFA have some of the same he said/she said issues every time something goes wrong.

I'm having the same issue. I can import 1099s from my other financial institutions, but cannot get the import to work with WFA.

It would be very nice if TT would respond to this thread with an update or issue some announcement that they are working to get this issue resolved.  And again.  I can't stress to them enough, this is Wells Fargo Advisors, not Wells Fargo Banking.  Two very different entities.  I know with Quicken it took them awhile to realize the difference.

Yes, Same thing.  I got rid of special characters in my password but the problem persists.   I have a case #28695034  open with Wells Fargo.  Problem feels more like its on the WFA side.  To trouble shoot I intentionally entered an incorrect pw and got an almost immediate "invalid user ID or password" error.   Very different from the error code from this problem.  The error  for this problem seems to be coming from WFA (2000:22: AC 200) or (2000:22:D0x00230001-xxxxxxxx).  I have successfully imported from other institutions including Fidelity and TD Ameritrade.

Thanks. Perhaps I'll open a trouble ticket with WF as well. In previous years, I've had no problems importing data from Wells Fargo Advisors. Just seems to be a problem this year.

Couldn't hurt to.  More people griping the more they might focus on fixing it.  And I have never had this type of problem with TT or any financial institution before and I've been using TT since......1994?  Long before there was such a thing as downloading.  Lol.

Ok.  Ever hopeful I tried this again today.  When opening TT I had a brief message it was uploading "partner" information.   Ooooo.  Maybe it will work.  Went to the 1099 import screen and get the same flash of a message.  Oooo.  Tried to import.  Same error message.  Such high hopes.  Oh well.  Guess I'll try to wait until Tuesday.

Same here.  I even tried signing into Wells Fargo Bank via TT to see if I could download my 1098.   It also failed and said something like Import failed but you can key it in .....  I have also tried the TT WFA login from a different pc and have the same failure pattern.  Hopefully this gets escalated to the right people who can diagnose what is occurring and fix it. (after the Monday holiday)

@overserved

Very odd that Wells Fargo Banking isn't working either.

It is my opinion that the problem is the number of transactions - why does TT import all transactions?  Why not just the summaries??

I called WF Friday and today (Monday) - I was told that WF team was working with TT.  I even changed my password - no difference, still couldn't download.  I asked what constituted a transaction because I do not trade very much - every dividend, every sale, every reinvestment, etc.  I can see where the maximum could be easily surpassed.

I asked WF to unlink my IRA's since I had already entered those by hand - one of the reps Friday said that he could do it, but the rep today said that it could not be done.

I agree it may be a size issue but normally the next screen you see let's you pick which WFA accounts you import.  Once you select accounts and actually start the import you would expect the size issue to occur.  Unless it is running into an issue with the number of accounts linked to the userid.   Did you attempt it after unlinking the IRAs?

I could not unlink the IRA's - the WF rep Friday said that he could, but the rep today said that she could not.  It seems that if there are too many transactions, you are not able to access the WF site thru TT.

I still do not understand why TT has to import all transactions - after all, if I enter by hand, I am only going to enter the summaries.

@William4493

If you go to imported transactions from the Income menu, you can select what type of F1099's you wish to have imported.  Or at the screen where you input your user name and password there is a "manage import" option that lets you do the same.  Additionally, once the import is functional you will be able to select the specific accounts you wish to import from - at least you could in previous years.

With respect to importing just summary level detail, if you have any 1099B transactions - sales/exchanges of assets (short term/long term capital gains), the IRS for many years has required full details to be input.  Can no longer input a single line such as "Detail available, various dates, etc.

So, if you don't have many transactions, you can absolutely input things manually.  You could input things manually if you had hundreds of capital gain line items if you so desired.

Certainly you can input everything manually, but then what advantage is there to spending $60 on TurboTax? Sadly, I use both Chase Bank and Wells Fargo Advisors, neither of which currently have working importing. From the programmer side of me, this speaks of poor interface beta testing. This is clearly a TT issue, as large organizations like Chase or Wells Fargo rarely alter their interface protocols. Come on TT, OWN it and FIX it!

If you go to the import from Sale of Stocks, Bonds, etc, you do not get the option to manage what to import, but if you go to the Dividend Income you are given that option.

I have used TT every year since 1991 and I am wondering if maybe I need to try a different software company next year.

Agree completely.  I was just answering William4493's query about why TT is having to import the detail.

Agree.  It's certainly a cluster this year.

WF stated this morning  (2/22 0740 CST) that the problem was that TT could not handle  special characters in the password.  They said to change password to removed them and try in a day or two.  I changed it and tried again with the same result.

Ok.  Called TT again this AM.  Actually, got a US based technical support representative which made the dialog so much easier.  He is adamant that this is a WFA issue and not a TT issue.  So, I guess we continue to make WFA support miserable with complaints?  And the phone number that is provided with the error message is pretty worthless.

Ah.  My advisor just contacted me.  The response from WFA now is that "they are working on it" and "hopefully by end of day today."  He said their inboxes are full of people calling and emailing.  So at least they are now acknowledging a problem and are working to fix it.

So the other brokerages OK with their downloads?  Yesterday, I was reading that it wasn't only WFA that had a problem.
