This is for an inherited property loss from a few years ago. I have been taking $3000k per year until used up, but Turbo won't let me enter it. Entering 2023 carry over long term loss data does NOT account for this year.
Thanks for responding appreciate it. So Turbo Tax completely botches this up and I can't file my taxes while they bumble around looking for a patch for this?
There has to be a manual workaround for this. All I want to do is say $3k carry over on loss for 2024. Done. This is nuts.
I am having the same problem and I'm just as frustrated so you are not alone
capital loss c/o's are entered on the carryover worksheet
in the investment income section there is a link to enter capital loss carryover - must enter as negative numbers
It did not give me a link it. I got to where it told me the loss was 1100.00 I clicked confirm then clicked done and it took me back to the screen to add other invesrments if i had any. It keeps going around in circles. Turbotax in the help section stated they are of this glitch and are working on the problem.
It is now 3/1/25. Is there any resolution to this problem? I have been using Quicken for 14 years, and my loss capital carry forward has always automatically been transferred from my federal to my state. Now State is asking me to manually fill out the carry forward worksheet. THIS SHOULD NOT BE SO. Does this also mean that I need to verify that my 2024 carry forward figure is accurate since I didn't input anything in any federal worksheets? This needs to be addressed! Like others, I didn't purchase filing software to have to manually enter info. and have the reasonable expectation that the software will be accurate--it isn't yet.
Have you reviewed the information under Wages & Income >> Investment Income >> Capital Loss Carryover? This section allows you to enter the carryovers from various sections of Schedule D and calculates the amount that will be carried forward.
The capital loss carryover experience has been reported and is under investigation. You may sign up for updates here: Why is the capital loss carryover screen showing incorrect calculations? Even if this doesn't seem to apply to your situation, the form & calculations will be updated in TurboTax when the investigation is complete.
