Law student in CA. Rented my apt out to a student from OSU for the summer. Received a 1099-Misc from OSU for the rental pmt. Do I need to file a state return for Ohio?

Since you can only be a resident of one state, you have to decide if it is CA or OH. Do you intend to stay in CA or move back?

You will have to file a resident tax return for one of them and and a nonresident for the other, but only if you meet the filing requirements. All income is taxable to your home state. For your nonresident state, only the income applicable to that state is included.
